The Ivory Coast on the spotlight
What is it ?
During one weekend, Chambéry takes on the flags of the world throughout the highly expected annual event known as the ‘Tour du Monde’. For this exceptional gathering, international students are invited to present their culture and traditions to the general public in Chambéry, through a lively and festive intercultural fair. Like every year, this event is organized by a team of students in the first year of the Master's degree in Event Management at IAE Savoie Mont Blanc, led by the Chambéry City Council and the ’Université Savoie Mont Blanc - Unita, with the support of numerous partners.
Étudiants internationaux – TDM 2022
Every year, this event attracts approximately 5000 participants. Working together, they create an amazing experience that brings people from different cultures closer, promoting unity and celebrating the diversity of each country.
New Venue for the 2024 edition
Traditionally, the event takes place in the heart of Chambéry at the Convention Center Le Manège, featuring a spacious 700m² hall with distinctive features such as parquet flooring and exposed beams.
However, for this year's edition and due to ongoing renovations at the Convention Center, the event will therefore take place at the Chambéry Savoie Stadium, situated at Esplanade André Gilbertas, 73000 Chambéry.
This new venue provides us with a larger space.
COUNTRIES IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Aligned with the vision and mission of promoting diversity and international culture, the event annually selects a country, this one is chosen by the public to be honored at the upcoming edition. The decision is made by a vote based on the best stand presented, as judged by the participants of the event. For the upcoming 2024 edition, the country in the spotlight will be the Ivory Coast.
The Ivory Coast, officially Côte d'Ivoire, is a West African nation known for its diverse landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and vibrant traditions.
From lush rainforests to expansive savannahs, the country is a melting pot of ethnicities and languages with a delectable cuisine, and a strong sense of community.
Ivorian culture is extremely rich and diverse, with a wide variety of dances, music, arts and crafts. Many traditional festivals and ceremonies are organised by local people. African masks play an important role in traditional Ivorian rituals, celebrations and festivities. These masks are made from a variety of local materials such as wood, leather, beads and coloured fabrics. Each detail, symbol and color used in the design of the masks carries a specific meaning. Each type of mask reflects the unique traditions of the community that created it, as well as the diversity and cultural richness of the Ivory Coast.
People dance to the sound of typical African instruments: the djembé and the balafon. The country is also renowned for its cuisine, which includes dishes based on rice, fish, meat and vegetables, as well as spicy dishes. The official language spoken in the Ivory Coast is French.
